About The Gardener

I've considered myself to be a gardener ever since I was able to make mud pies in my vast childhood backyard.

It was filled with Irises that smelled like lemon cake, sweet plums that overburdened the tree year after year, an apple tree that yielded fat and tangy Spartan apples, and a veggie patch which held an array of everyday vegetables from peas to pumpkins. It was filled with butterflies and bugs. The sun was always warm and inviting, and the smells of fresh cut grass and roses permeated the air. A childhood backyard is a wonderful thing! Memories that last a lifetime are made there.

After too-long a stint in an office environment, I decided to pursue my passion and enrolled in a Residential Landscape Design course. Over the next three years I doggedly chased after my dream and in the end was rewarded with my certificate.

Since then I've worked on many different garden situations ranging from start-from-scratch brand new houses to excavating old, overgrown gardens in older homes; from designing balconies for display suites to scaling rock gardens overlooking the Horseshoe Bay area. Each job I take on always rewards me in some way and confirms my love for all things gardens!

Garden Tips!

  • Now’s the time to check out the spring stock at the local nurseries. Look for rhododendrons in a rainbow of colours, flowering cherry trees, camellias and coral bark maples with their fabulous bark. Also available now are spring heath, witch hazels with their yellow or coral red flowers and wonderful magnolias with flower colours ranging from deep purple to pink, to white, and even yellow.

  • Who says you can’t have veggies in your front garden? This year, why not plan to add some herbs and vegetables with colourful foliage to the border? These plants can create a striking effect when planted among flowers and ornamental grasses. Try hot little red peppers, lime or purple basils or even cherry tomatoes in your sunniest borders.
